Hughes smashes another ton, equals Symonds record

London, Apr.30 (ANI): Test opener Phillip Hughes has become only the second Australian player ever to record centuries in his first two matches in the English County Championship.

Hughes scored 139 for Middlesex in the first innings of their current match against Leicestershire on Wednesday to follow up his 118 against Glamorgan in the previous match.

The only Australian to achieve this feat before Hughes was Andrew Symonds in 1995.

Symonds scored 161 not out for Gloucestershire against Surrey followed by 102 not out for Gloucestershire against Somerset.

Hughes also made 74 as Middlesex thrashed Scotland by 162 runs in their Friends Provident Trophy one-day match at Lord's earlier in the week.

Other Australian batsmen have scored consecutive hundreds in their first two innings in England but were either representing an Australian side or, as in former international player Michael Bevan's case, one match was not a County Championship match.
