Hyderabad piles up 228 for 5

By Staff

Cuttack, Nov 3 (UNI) Steady knocks of Opener Ravi Teja(71) and S Anup Pai (78) helped Hyderabad ward off the initial threat posed by the Orissa bowlers on the first day of the Elite Group A Ranji Trophy cricket match at the Barbati stadium here today.

The visitors, who had suffered an early jolt losing opener T Suman without any run on the board, managed to end the day at 228 for five.

Winning the toss, Orissa put Hyderabad into bat to take advantage of the overcast condition and seamer Debashis Mohanty responded by trapping opener T.Suman Lbw for duck.

If the morning session belonged to the Orissa bowlers, the afternoon session was dominated by the Hyderabad batsmen.

Orissa spinner made no impact as they were unable to even check the run flow. While Debashis and Paramjit claimed two wickets each conceding 43 and 41 runs respectively, Basant Mohanty took one wicket giving 54 runs.

At the end of the play, Abhinav Kumar was at the crease with 48 runs not out.
