I am not good at selling myself: Dav Whatmore
Chittagong, May 20 (UNI) Even as speculations run rife over the coach selection for Team India, Dav Whatmore, who looks to be ahead of the others in the race, said he is not good at 'selling himself'.
Talking to UNI, Whatmore said, ''Immediately after the assignment gets over on May 29 I will be off to Melbourne on the first available flight for three weeks holiday.'' Whether he was asked to be present on the June four Coach Selection Committee meet, he said, ''If work calls I will come.'' On whether he had a presentation ready, he said, ''I am not good at making presentations. I am good on the field. My job is to prove myself out there in the open and I have a resume to show for it.'' ''Like some others I am not good at selling myself,'' he added.
Dav Whatmore has an extremely impressive CV with successes for Lancashire, Sri Lanaka and now Bangladesh.
Too much of a gentleman to go into any details of whether he had met BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah yesterday on his day-long sojourn to Bangladesh, Dav said, ''You will come to know about it on June four. I am a little guarded on this.'' Incidentally Greg Chappell was selected after he made a brilliant presentation before the last selection committee headed by Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya.
Asked about the recent controversies regarding him and Bangladesh Cricket Board, he said, ''I want to part on a sweet note. I don't want any kind of bitterness between the Board and myself when I'm parting ways.'' BCB CEO Mahmudur Rahman in a recent interview had said, ''Whatmore being an Australian approaches things the Australian way, whereas the players in the sub-continent are an emotional lot.
Dav is not used to giving explanations.'' Rahman's comments - in essence put a question mark over the man-management skills of Whatmore.
Asked to comment on the recent controversy, he said, ''That is the reason I have refrained from making a comment on that issue.
I don't want any controversy. I think these kind of things happen at the end of a tenure.'' ''But I have taken Bangladesh cricket to a level and its up to them to go on and corner greater glories now,'' he said.
Dav also expressed his disappointment at the rains suspending the third day's play here. ''Its really sad. We wanted some kind of game today. The boys are bowling well and am sure they will make themselves counted while batting.'' UNI BA SAM DB2017
