IAF motorycle rally to Shillong flagged off today
Kolkata, Feb 25 (UNI) With a view to inculcating a spirit of adventure among the young generation, an 800-km-long motorcycle rally from Kolkata to Shillong and back was flagged off here today.
The rally was also a part of the Indian Air Force's platinum jubilee celebration.
The eight-member team, led by Wing Commander R K Das, who crossed the treacherous Khardungla pass, the highest motorable pass in the world, four times, would reach Shillong, the Headquarters of Eastern Air Command via Bagdogra, Hasimara and Guwahati on March two before starting their return journey the next day.
Besides Wing Commander Das, other members of the team are Wg Cdr B R Deesa, Cap S Rokade, WO K Iylango, JWO D S Sahni, Sgt R Rana, Cpl R S Roy and LAC R I Teotia.
The rally was flagged off by Air Chief designate, Air Marshal F H Major at the Eastern Command Headquarters at Fort William.
