I'm thankful Carlo hasn't broken his back, neck, or is dead: Redknapp

By Super Admin

London, Nov 13(ANI): Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has said he is relieved that goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has survived a serious road accident in Walthamstow, England.

The Italian goalie broke both of his wrists and damaged his pelvis as his 11,000 pound BMW R1200 GS collided with a Ford Fiesta, catapulting him into the air.

"I'm just thankful he hasn't broken his back, his neck, or is dead. It could have killed him. I'm just relieved really. It's a shocking thing to happen," The Sun quoted Redknapp, as saying.

"He's lucky to be alive. It could easily have been much worse. I didn't know he had a motorbike. Clubs certainly don't encourage players to have them," he added.

The police initially described the 36-year-old star's injuries as 'possibly life-changing'.

"A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life-changing and was taken to an East London hospital for further assessment and treatment," The Mirror quoted a police spokesperson, as saying.

A Tottenham spokesperson later confirmed the report and said: "We can confirm Carlo Cudicini was involved in a road accident this (Thursday) morning. The club doctor is with him at hospital where we await the result of scans and tests."

Tottenham also said that no senior employee was aware that the keeper had a motorbike. Most players' contracts ban dangerous activities like extreme sports or riding motorbikes.
