Inaugural Indian Memory Chammpionships to be held in July-Sept 2009

Mumbai, Sep 12 (UNI) The inaugural Indian Memory Championships will be held in two phases in July-September next year, it was announced by the Indian Memory Council here today.

In the first phase, the Zonal qualifying rounds shall be held in eight cities across four zones to identify the best talent across India. They will compete in the national finals.

The competition shall be held for three age categories: 12-16, 17-21 and 22+. The participants will be tested in 10 disciplines: Random words, Binary Numbers, Names and Faces, Hour Numbers, Hour Cards, Speed Numbers, Abstract Images, Historic Dates, Spoken Numbers and Speed Cards.

The second phase of the Championships will be held in August, when the winners from the zonal rounds will compete in the national level finals, to decide the overall Indian Memory Champion. In addition to being the winner of the Indian leg, the winner shall also be the representative for India in the World Memory Championships.

In addition to being crowned the best in India, the winners of the Indian Memory Championships will go on to represent India at the World Memory Championships, competing with memory champions from all across the world, the Council representatives announced on the occasion.

Before the Indian Memory Championships, the Indian Memory Council will hold Free Memory Training Workshops, wherein the Council in association with Urban Forum, Everonn, PMG and Funtimes will train participants in memory techniques, that shall be vital for the participant's preparation for the Indian Memory Championships.

These training sessions will be free and will aid participants in training the mind to work like a computer, give speeches and presentations without notes, increase the memory power by 200 per cent, double memory and productivity and recall names and faces of people without hesitation, it was further stated on the occasion.

These training sessions will be held across three cities the including Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.

The Council will also be holding an official soft launch event, which shall take place on November 10 this year. The session shall be a combination of the official launch and an abridged version of the IMC competition consisting of five disciplines. The event will be chaired by Tony Buzan, co-founder of the World Memory Council. It will be managed by the Master Arbiter, Phil Chambers of the UK, it was stated.
