Asian Senior Fencing Championships 2026: India Prepares AI Video Review And Digital Coverage

The 26th Asian Senior Fencing Championships 2026 begin in New Delhi from 19 to 24 June at Bharat Mandapam, bringing together top Asian fencers in foil, épée and sabre. The event will also show how fencing uses technology for fair scoring, video review, fan coverage and athlete development.

Held in India for the first time, the championships arrive as fencing remains one of the most data-driven Olympic sports. Electronic scoring, smart weapons, conductive clothing and digital systems now record touches in milliseconds, while artificial intelligence and video analysis are shaping future refereeing and training methods.

AI video review and digital fencing coverage

AI video review prepares officials

Artificial intelligence will not be used in the competition itself because of federation rules, but the event is helping India prepare for future AI-supported video review. The Fencing Association of India held an AI Video Referral System Workshop in New Delhi for referees and technical officials before the championships.

The workshop was meant to give hands-on experience with ST37 robotic camera technology, which is designed for high-speed sports. It combines automated video capture, athlete tracking and analysis tools, and is intended to help referees review key moments with better replay support in future events.

“The technology represents a significant advancement in officiating support, helping ensure greater consistency and accuracy during elite-level competition. Ahead of the Championships, the Fencing Association of India conducted a landmark AI Video Referral System Workshop in New Delhi, equipping referees and technical officials with the knowledge and tools required to operate within this next-generation officiating environment – expresses Mr. Sagar Suresh Lagu, Technical Director of the championship and Indian Sabre coach who has developed several international medialists for India, including the only Indian Olympian, Ms. C.A. Bhavani Devi.

Digital coverage and fan access

Technology is also changing how fans follow fencing. Through the International Fencing Federation’s digital platform, Fencing TV, viewers can watch multi-camera coverage of international events. This matters in fencing, where many matches can run at the same time across several pistes.

Automated production systems now capture and broadcast individual piste feeds at once. Live score overlays, bout details, timing data and penalty indicators appear in the feed, while digital platforms also offer interviews, archived matches, highlights, multilingual commentary and interactive tracking.

FAI App for the championships

The Fencing Association of India’s official mobile application will serve as a tournament companion during the Asian Senior Fencing Championships. It will give athletes, coaches, officials and fans access to live results, direct elimination brackets, pool standings, schedules, ranking information and broadcast updates on mobile devices.

The app also allows personalised alerts for selected athletes, weapon categories or stages of the event. For officials and technical staff, it offers digital tools for tournament operations, referee coordination and event administration, marking a further step in the modernisation of fencing in India.

Data, rankings and Olympic path

Modern fencing now depends on data analytics, performance tracking, biomechanics and video review. Coaches and athletes use this information to study movement, tactics, reaction speed and opponent patterns. The championships also carry value as they offer ranking points and qualification chances for future continental and global events, including the road to Los Angeles 2028.
