Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced India's ambition to host the 2036 Olympics and secure a top 10 position in the medals tally.
Speaking at the Viksit Bharat Ambassador - Yuva Connect initiative at SP College, he highlighted the aim of making India one of the top five sports nations by 2047. This initiative focuses on enhancing India's sports sector as part of its overall development strategy.

Mandaviya emphasised that achieving this goal requires nurturing world-class athletes. The Khelo India programme was introduced to identify and support young sports talent.
Through this initiative, promising athletes are given opportunities to excel in their respective sports. The minister mentioned that these efforts aim to produce athletes like Swapnil Kusale, who recently won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
The KIRTI Khelo India Rising Talent Identification project has identified over one lakh talented sportspersons. From this pool, select individuals receive special assistance under the Targeted Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). This scheme provides training, nutritional support, international exposure, and access to top coaches for these athletes.
In the recent Paris Olympics, India secured six medals, with eight athletes finishing in fourth place. Mandaviya expressed confidence that these athletes will improve and aim for podium finishes in future competitions. Additionally, India achieved a significant increase in Paralympic medals, winning 29 compared to 19 in the previous edition.
The Viksit Bharat Ambassador - Yuva Connect initiative was launched from Pune. It aims to engage students from various colleges in Maharashtra, guiding them on their role in achieving a developed India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strategically planned for India's development, with youth-centric decisions reflected in the budget.
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs Raksha Khadse encouraged students to register on My Bharat Portal. This platform allows them to contribute towards building a developed nation. The government is keen on involving young people in its vision for a prosperous future.
Mandaviya reiterated India's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics and achieve a top 10 position in the medals tally. He stressed that by 2047, India aims to be among the top five countries in sports globally. The focus remains on creating opportunities for young athletes through initiatives like Khelo India and TOPS.
