India's Javelin renaissance after Neeraj Chopra's Success is 'Amazing': Chukwuebuka Enekwechi after Silver Meet Crown | Exclusive
Nigeria's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has once again shown why he remains one of Africa's most reliable and accomplished throwers.
At the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Meet in Bhubaneswar on 22 August 2026, the powerful shot-putter claimed victory with a solid 20.78m effort, ahead of Italy's Zane Weir (20.47m) and India's Karanveer Singh (20.06m).

It marked his eighth win of the season and another statement of authority on the international circuit.Just weeks earlier, Enekwechi had rewritten Nigerian sporting history at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In a dramatic final he produced a season's-best 21.07m to edge New Zealand's two-time champion Tom Walsh by a mere four centimetres, becoming the first Nigerian man ever to win Commonwealth gold in the shot put.
The triumph upgraded his 2018 silver and erased the pain of a fourth-place finish in Birmingham four years ago. African record holder, multiple continental champion and now Commonwealth gold medallist, the 33-year-old continues to build an impressive legacy.
His Bhubaneswar success adds yet another chapter - one that sets the perfect stage for a conversation with the champion himself. And just after the crown in Bhubaneswar, Enekwechi speaks with MyKhel in an exclusive interview, where he points out how Nigeria can emulate India's Javelin surge after Neeraj Chopra's success.
Enekwechi has been the flagbearer in Shot Put for Nigeria for a long time. And as the global appeal for the event grows, the Commonwealth Game champion believes his country can follow India's path and create a bloom in the game through his success.
"I think India did an amazing job after Neeraj Chopra's success at the Olympics. They made him a hero. And now when you see the involvement of Javelin in this country, there's an outpouring of people that want to walk in his footsteps."
"I think if my country did the same thing following my success, you'd have kids that sign up and you get the talent that gravitates towards my event as well. So, I think it's a great example what India has done for Neeraj Chopra. And I think it's a good example to follow."
