By MyKhel Staff

India made a strong debut in the Kho Kho World Cup 2025, overcoming Nepal 42-37 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Monday.

Led by captain and Wazir Pratik Waikar, the Indian team delivered a commanding all-round performance, setting the stage for their pursuit of the prestigious title.

India's aggressive start was key to their success, as they eliminated Nepal's first three defenders within just 60 seconds of Turn 1. With Pratik Waikar and Ramji Kashyap executing dazzling flying jumps, India surged ahead, building a significant 14-point lead with just three minutes left in the first turn, having dismissed two sets of Nepal defenders.

Sachin Bhargo, taking over as Wazir from Waikar, added a memorable moment to the match with a stunning skydive, extending India's lead to 24 touch points at halftime. His move also prevented Nepal from achieving a 'Dream Run'-a feat in which defenders stay on the mat for three minutes, earning their team points every 30 seconds thereafter.

Despite a slow start in Turn 2, Nepal mounted a strong comeback, scoring six points in nearly two minutes. Indian defenders were unable to execute a Dream Run, allowing Nepal to accumulate 20 points during their turn. Jogendra Rana emerged as Nepal's key player, scoring four points, including two dives, keeping his side within reach.

Nepal's Bharat Saru achieved the first Dream Run of the 2025 World Cup, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. India, meanwhile, increased their lead from 24 points to 42 by the third turn, holding a commanding 21-point advantage going into the fourth and final segment of the game.

Nepal's Jhalak BK led a late charge in Turn 4, narrowing the deficit to just five points. However, it was too little, too late as India held on to claim a hard-fought victory and a perfect start to the tournament.
