After medals flowed in the past few days, it was a rather quiet day for India in terms of medal wins at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 on Thursday (September 5) as there was only a solitary bronze to celebrate.
However, it was a historic one as Kapil Parmar bagged India's first-ever Paralympic medal in judo, winning a bronze in the men's 60kg (J1) after convincingly defeating Brazil's Elielton de Oliveira in the play-off.

Parmar produced a superlative performance, dominating his opponent from start to finish to record a 10-0 win in the bronze medal contest. He had earlier lost to S Banitaba Khorram Abadi in the semifinals, beaten 0-10 by his Iranian opponent.
Parmar's bronze took India's medal haul to 25 in the Paris Paralympics 2024 medal table and the nation is currently placed 16th in the overall standings with five gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals.
Indians also came very close to winning at least two more medals on Thursday (September 6). History-making archer Harvinder Singh lost the bonze medal match in the mixed team recurve open event alongside Pooja Jatyan, and Simran Singh finished 4th in women's 100m T12 event.
Earlier in the week, Harvinder Singh scripted history as the first Indian archer to strike gold at the Paralympics before club thrower Dharambir also secured a top finish with a record-shattering throw.
World champion shot-putter Sachin Sarjerao Khilari and another club thrower Pranav Soorma's silver-winning performances were a major highlight too on a terrific Wednesday (September 4) for India in Paris Paralympics.
Late on Tuesday (September 3) night, Indians won silver and bronze in both men's high jump T63 and javelin throw F46 after Deepthi Jeevanji's bronze in the women's 400m T20 category in India's best day at the Games. Here is a look at the Indian medallists so far:
