India, Pakistan clubbed in same group at Asia Cup

Lahore, Mar 20 (UNI) Arch rivals India and hosts Pakistan have been clubbed in pool ''B'' for the 9th Asia Cup to be held from June 24 to July 6.

The third team in their pool is Hong Kong, while defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates are in pool''A'' form the other pool.

The draw for the Cup was announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) here today.

''All the participating nations have confirmed their participation and we hope to have a safe and highly competitive Asia Cup in three months' time,'' ACC chief executive Ashraful Huq told reporters at the Gadaffi Stadium, which also is the head quarters of the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB).

Huq asserted that holding of the tournament was never in doubt even after the Aussies refused to tour Pakistan.

''Australians are unaware of our culture and they don't have an idea that no sporting activity has ever been hurt in Asia.

All the teams are going to take part barring any major disaster,'' he claimed.

Sri Lanka won the eighth edition in 2004 when the tournament was held in Colombo but it could not be held in 2006 due to the heavy international schedule.
