India Secure Spot in Tent Pegging World Cup Finals in Jordan After Winning Six Medals

India has secured a spot in the Tent Pegging World Cup Championships, set for November 2026 in Jordan. This achievement follows their impressive performance in the qualifying rounds, where they earned six medals.

The team, featuring Dfr Sandeep Kumar, Dfr Dhanraj Sirsat, Dfr Bonge Ganesh Baliram, and ASI Jitender Singh, excelled in both team and individual events.

India Qualifies for Tent Pegging World Cup

Competing against strong teams from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Norway, and Indonesia, the Indian squad showcased consistent skills. Their efforts across lance, sword, and combined events led to an overall bronze medal. This success confirmed their qualification for the World Cup finals in Jordan.

Medal Achievements

India's medal journey began on January 29 with a team silver in the lance event. Dfr Dhanraj Sirsat also secured an individual bronze in this category. The next day was particularly successful as India clinched gold in the team sword event. Sirsat further demonstrated his prowess by winning a silver medal in the individual sword event.

On January 31, the Indian team added bronze medals in the combined Lemon & Pegs, Rings & Pegs, and Relay events. These results contributed to an overall team bronze, ensuring their place in the World Cup championships.

Team Effort and Leadership

The team's coach-cum-manager, Tarsem Singh Warraich, expressed satisfaction with their performance. Despite facing controversy due to rape allegations against him, Warraich praised the young riders' dedication. "Each day we won a medal, our athletes were consistent. It's a team effort," said Warraich.

The Indian contingent's success highlights their determination and skill in tent pegging. Their achievements against traditional powerhouses underscore their potential for future competitions. As they prepare for the World Cup finals in Jordan, the team's focus remains on maintaining their competitive edge.
