The Indian contingent has reached unprecedented heights at the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing their best-ever medal haul with 20 medals so far - 3 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze after Day 6.

This remarkable achievement surpasses India's previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, with the possibility of more to come as the games continue until September 8.

A highlight of India's performance on Day 6 came from Deepthi Jeevanji, who clinched a bronze medal in the Women's 400m T20 race with a time of 55.82 seconds.

Making her Paralympic debut, Deepthi's achievement also marked her as the second Indian woman to win a track event medal at the Paralympics, following in the footsteps of Preeti Pal.

India celebrated its first double podium finish in athletics at these Games when Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar took silver and bronze, respectively, in the Men's F46 javelin throw.

Ajeet recorded a personal best throw of 65.62 meters, while Sundar achieved a season-best of 64.96 meters. Rinku, another Indian competitor in the event, secured fifth place with his best throw at 61.58 meters.

The day continued to deliver for India in athletics, with high jumpers Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu claiming silver and bronze in the Men's T63 high jump event.

Sharad set a new Paralympic record for the T42 category with a jump of 1.88 meters, upgrading his Tokyo bronze to silver. Mariyappan closely followed, securing the bronze with a 1.85-meter jump, while compatriot Shailesh Kumar narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth.

On the shooting range, Avani Lekhara, who had already claimed gold earlier in the Games, finished fifth in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 event. In archery, Pooja Jatyan reached the quarterfinals of the Women's Individual Recurve Open before being eliminated by China's Wu Chunyan.

The remarkable medal haul reflects India's growing prowess in para-sports, and with several events still left, the nation is hopeful of adding to its tally. The Paris Paralympics 2024 will be remembered as a landmark event for Indian sports, showcasing the extraordinary talent and determination of its athletes on the global stage.
