Two More Asian Games Medals Assured: India’s Squash Teams Storm Into Semifinals

India's men's and women's squash teams advanced to the Asian Games 2026 semifinals with convincing quarterfinal victories on Wednesday, guaranteeing the country at least two more medals in the sport.

The defending champion men's team defeated Kuwait 2-0, while the women's side secured an identical 2-0 victory over Singapore to book their places in the last four.

India men overcome Kuwait

The Indian men entered the team event as top seeds and defending champions and maintained their strong run with a 2-0 victory over Kuwait.

Veer Chotrani was made to work hard in the opening singles against Bader Almogghrebi before eventually securing a 12-10, 8-11, 11-0, 11-5 victory in 34 minutes.

After dropping the second game, Chotrani regained control and dominated the remainder of the contest to put India ahead in the tie.

Abhay Singh then completed the job for India with a commanding 11-3, 11-4, 11-8 victory over Ammar Altamimi.

Abhay, who had earlier won a silver medal in the individual competition, gave India a decisive second point and ensured the team would progress without requiring a third match.

India had previously topped Pool C after beating China and Japan before completing the group stage with a 3-0 win over Iran.

Women's team also seals semifinal spot

The Indian women produced an equally assured performance against Singapore, winning both singles matches to seal a 2-0 quarterfinal victory.

Tanvi Khanna opened the tie against Au Yeong Wai Iynn and survived a closely contested encounter. She won 11-6, 4-11, 15-13, 11-1 in 32 minutes.

Tanvi recovered after losing the second game and edged a crucial third game 15-13 before taking control in the fourth.

Anahat Singh then sealed the tie with a dominant performance against Au Yeong Wai Yhann. The 18-year-old won 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 in just 22 minutes.

Anahat, who had already secured a silver medal in the individual competition, produced a controlled display to take India into the semifinals.

Veteran Joshna Chinappa did not need to take the court after India secured the first two victories.

Two more medals assured for India

The quarterfinal victories mean both Indian teams are guaranteed at least bronze medals, adding to the country's growing medal tally in squash at the Asian Games.

The Indian men will now look to continue their title defence in the semifinals, while the women will also aim to advance to the gold-medal match.

The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, with India's opponents to be determined.

For the women's team, the campaign has already included wins over China, Japan and Iran in the group stage before Wednesday's victory over Singapore. The men's side, meanwhile, has continued the form expected of the defending champions and top seeds.

With both teams now through to the final four, India has secured another significant haul from the squash competition, with the two sides still within touching distance of gold.
