India Looking to Build on Historic Medal Run

Indian table tennis has won three Asian Games medals, all bronze. India's breakthrough came at Jakarta 2018, when the men's team won bronze and Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal added another bronze in mixed doubles. At Hangzhou 2023, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee won bronze in women's doubles, ending a long wait for another podium finish.

The 2026 squad will therefore attempt to build on that momentum, although the challenge will be significant. Japan and China traditionally have strong table-tennis programmes, while the conditions in Aichi-Nagoya could also test Indian paddlers.
