India thrash Pakistan in first Asian Games 2026 meeting, Women's Table Tennis Team secure massive Win

The Indian women's Table Tennis team has thrashed Pakistan in the first Indo-Pak duel of the Asian Games 2026.

Albeit not in cricket, the women paddlers have secured a dominating victory over a hapless Pakistani side on Monday (September 21), thus confirming their progression to the knockouts of the competition.

The Indian girls secured a 3-0 victory over Pakistan to clinch the group stage match, without conceding a single set in the entire encounter.

India vs Pakistan - As It Happened

The Indian team had Sutirtha Mukherjee in the first match, and she beat Aleena Khan 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 to start off the lead for India. She didn't have to break a sweat in the entire encounter and secured a perfect start.

Next up was Syndrela Das, the 17-year-old Kolkata girl, against Kalsoom Khan. Syndrela won the first set 11-6, and then continued her merry way with an 11-7 win in the second set.

Sreeja Akula took on Fatima Khan in the third encounter and had a comfortable win to seal the deal for the Indian team. And the Pakistani paddler didn't force any issues at all, as Sreeja completed a comfortable 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 to seal the deal for India.

The three wins for India sealed the deal, meaning the final two matches of the series were not required.

India stamp authority in Table Tennis

India's women's table tennis team enjoyed a perfect Day 1 at the Asian Games, securing two victories in Group F. They opened with a 3-0 win over Indonesia, with Sreeja Akula, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade winning their respective singles matches.

Later, India produced a thrilling 3-2 comeback against Singapore. Ghorpade won the opening rubber before Sreeja and Diya lost their matches, leaving India 1-2 down. Sreeja then defeated Jian Zeng to level the tie, before Ghorpade beat Loy Ming in the decider to seal the victory.

With three wins out of three group matches, the Indian team has now progressed to the quarterfinals of the Asian Games.
