India to meet Korea in Womens Olympic Qualifying match
Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) Big time football comes to this teeming metropolis after a long time when the Women's Olympic qualifying match would be held between India and Korea here on February 25.
Having lost the away match 0-5 under sub-zero temperatures at Masan near Busan on February 17, India have to win by a six goal margin to qualify for the next stage.
This would be the first women's international event after the J Jayalalithaa Gold cup held in 1994.
Talking to reporters here today, Tamil Nadu Football Association President C R Visswanathan said all arrangements had been completed for the match and AIFF has appreciated the local association for rising the facilities to international standards, including the playing surface, which sports a lush green look.
Thanks to the support from the Tamil Nadu government, the stadium was refurbished to make the facilities on par with international standards.
The Korean team had already arrived in Chennai and they would have a feel of the turf on Feburary 24.
Mr Visswanathan also announced holding of the men's three pre-olympic matches on March 14, 28 and May 16 against Thailand, DPR Korea and Iraq respectively.
