Indian Airlines trounce Rail Coach Factory

Jalandhar, Oct 30 (UNI) Star-packed Indian Airlines trounced Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala 8-1 to register their first victory in the 24th Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

In another match, Punjab Police outplayed Sports Authority of India, Delhi, 5-1 but failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

In a pool B match, Indian Airlines put brakes on Rail Coach factory Kapurthala 8-1. In the 16th and 22nd minutes Indian Airlines centre forward Sandeep Micheal sounded the board twice (2-0). In the 27th minute, drag flicker Sandeep Singh converted the penalty corner for Indian Airlines (3-0). In the very next minute Sandeep Micheal once again struck (4-0). One minute before the half time Rail Coach Factory reduced the margin when Deepak Kumar netted the ball from a pass of Gagandeep Singh (1-4).

In the 45th minute, Sandeep Singh converted another penalty corner (5-1). In the 53rd minute Pawan Bassi of Indian Airlines increased the lead ( 6-1). In the 57th minute, Brojen Singh and in 60th minute Osaf-ul-Rehman completed the score sheet (8-1).

Meanwhile, Punjab Police after losing their first battle against IndianOil yesterday, today beat Sports Authority of India Delhi 5-1.

In the 9th minute Sports Authority of India took the lead with a field goal scored by Ajay Gupta (1-0). In the 16th minute equaliser came from the stick of international star Jugraj singh for Punjab Police with penalty corner conversion (1-1). In the 20th minute, Punjab Police took lead with a field goal scored by Gabbar Singh (2-1).

In the 41st minute, Olympian Gagan Ajit Singh consolidated for Policemen with an indirect penalty corner conversion (3-1). In the 50th minute Gagan Ajit Singh once again struck (4-1). In the 63rd minute Jugraj Singh completed the tally with penalty corner conversion (5-1). With this win Punjab Police got three point but failed to qualify for semis.

Meanwhile, in the Junior category Pool B match, Chandigarh Hockey Academy thrashed Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy Amritsar by 6-1.

Davinder Singh (12th) Simrandeep Singh (19th, 25th penalty corners), Sandeep Singh scored (56th, 61st) and Harinder Singh (69th) were the winners' scorers.
