Indian boxers fail to deliver knock-out punch at King's Cup
New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) Indian pugilists failed to continue with their fine show at the finals of the 29th Kings Cup Boxing Championships held in Bankok to finally end with a tally of three silvers and one bronze medal.
Hosts Thailand retained the Team Championship and Uzbekistan were Runners-up.
Jitender Kumar, Narjit Singh and Vijender got silver medals, while Dinesh Kumar received the bronze medal as he had earlier lost in the semi-finals to Abdurrahmanov Sherzod of Uzbekistan who was the eventual gold medalist, according to a release of Indian Amateur Boxing Federation.
Jitender Kumar lost the 51 Kgs weight category on points to Thailand's Somjit Jongjor, who was declared the ''Best Boxer of the Championship.'' In the 75 Kgs, Doha Asian Games bronze medalist Vijender lost on points to Asian Games gold medalist Rasulov Elshod of Uzbekistan.
Narjit Singh lost by a RSC(OS) verdict to Abutalipov Kanat of Kazakhstan in the 54 Kgs category.
Vijender had earlier crafted a stunning upset victory over Athens Olympic medalist Suriya Prasarthinphimai of Thailand to reach the semi-finals in the 75 kg category.
