Indian Boxing gets Rs 40 Crore boost ahead of LA 2028 Olympics
Indian boxing has received a significant financial boost ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) joining hands for a ₹40 crore commitment over two years to strengthen the sport across the country.
The initiative aims to support Indian boxing from grassroots development to elite-level preparation, with a focus on nurturing emerging talent, improving athlete support and preparing boxers for major international competitions.

The funding comes as Indian boxing looks to build on its performances at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, while stepping up preparations for the next Olympic cycle.
Focus on Grassroots Development and Elite Preparation
The collaboration between IOCL, SAI and BFI is expected to strengthen the development pathway for Indian boxers, providing support at different stages of their careers.
Grassroots development remains an important component of the initiative, with identifying and nurturing young talent crucial to building a stronger pool of boxers for the future. At the same time, elite athletes require consistent training, access to quality facilities and structured preparation to compete against the world's best.
The two-year commitment is intended to address these requirements and provide greater backing to Indian boxing as it targets sustained success on the international stage.
LA Olympics 2028 in Focus
With the Los Angeles Olympics scheduled for 2028, preparations for the Games are becoming an important priority for Indian boxing. The financial commitment could help strengthen the support system required to prepare athletes for the demands of Olympic competition.
Indian boxers have enjoyed notable success at major multi-sport events, including the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. The next challenge will be to translate that momentum into consistent performances at the highest level, particularly at the Olympics.
The road to Los Angeles will require athletes to maintain competitive standards while benefiting from systematic training, strong coaching and adequate preparation opportunities.
