Indian challenge ends in semis
Hyderabad, Mar 30 (UNI) Indian challenge ends in semifinals of 10,000 dollar ITF Women Hyderabad Tennis Tournament here today.
Seventh seed Sanaa Bhambri lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to sixth seed American Liu Amber in the singles, and earlier she partnering Isha Lakhani lost to top seed and eventual winners Chen Yi (Tpe) and Liu Wan-Ting 6-0, 6-2.
In the other semifinal fourth seed Voegele Stefanie coming from behind defeated second seed Liu Wan-Ting 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Voegele earlier finished runner up to Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in the 000 ITF event in Mumbai.
Taipei and Chinese pair of Chen Yi and Liu Wan-Ting later crushed the Korean resistance to win their first doubles title. Second seed Korean pair of Cho Jeong-A and Kim Ji-Young put up some resistance in the first set coming behind from 5-1 to 5-4 but lost the momentum and the match to top seeds. In the second set they were crushed to 6-3.
Results: Singles Semifinals: Liu Amber (6) bt Sanaa Bhambri (7) 6-2, 6-1.
Voegele Stefania (4) bt Liu Wan-Ting (2) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Doubles Final: Chen Yi, Liu Wan-Ting (Tpe/Chn) bt Cho Jeong-A, Kim Ji-Young 6-4, 6-3.
