Indian eves win maiden team title in Commonwealth Powerlifting event

New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) After a resounding success in individual events, Indian powerlifters triumphed in team event too as Indian eves bagged the team title in both junior and sub-junior categories in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship in Christchurch in New Zealand.

The men's team, however, had to satisfy with the silver medal as hosts New Zealand won the gold, while Australia bagged the bronze.

Indrapreet bagged a silver medal in the seniors +125kg category with a total lift of 740kgs, while Jeeven Kumar lifted 635kg to pocket a bronze in the seniors 110kg.

With these victoriers, India finished on an impressive tally of 23 medals -- 12 gold, seven silver and four bronze in the championship which concluded yesterday.

India's Mala Sukhwal and Jenis Joseph bagged the title of 'strong women' in the junior category, a release by the Indian Powerlifting Federation stated.

The next edition of the championship will be hosted by India.
