Indian fencers to train Bangladesh fencers and trainers

Patiala, Jan 13: Three Indian top fencers will leave for Bangladesh on January 20 to impart training to rooky fencers and trainers in Bangladesh.

The three fencers are-Amitabh (Uttar Pradesh), Gurmohan Singh (Madhya Pradesh) and Rakesh Kumar (Bihar). They will impart training at various fencing centre of Bangladesh. Dhysical education teachers in Bangladesh will also be trained. The training will be imparted in the three events, Foil, Epee and Sabre.The secretary-general of Fencing Federation of India (FFI), Mr Arun Kumar Vij disclosed here today that the secretary- general of newly-formed Bangladesh Fencing Federation, Major Qamrul Islam, had resquested the FFI for the services of Indian fencers to train young fencers in Bangladesh.

Maj Islam was at the NIS here last year to explore possibilities for India-Bangladesh rapport in fencing for mutual benefit.

The FFI has provided full equipment for the 40-day training camp under the supervision of the three Indian fencers, while Bangladesh has provided the boarding and lodging.

Mr Vij said after the training camp in Bangladesh, there will be India-Bangladesh dual fencing meet on dates yet to be decided.

Bangladesh was recently granted affiliation to International Fencing Federation, Commonwealth Fencing Federation and Asian Fencing Fencing Association on the recommendation of Mr Vij, who is Vice-President of Commonwealth Fencing Federation.
