At the prestigious Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship hosted by the Hong Kong Golf Club, India's young golfers made a commendable start on Tuesday (May 27).
Leading the way for India, Ranveer Mitroo, showcased his skills with a two-under 69, placing him in a tie for fourth at the end of the first round. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has fielded a four-member team in this esteemed event, indicating the country's growing presence in the sport.

Ranveer, only 16, demonstrated his potential early on, marking his card with birdies on the second and fifth holes. Despite a hiccup with a bogey on the ninth, the Delhi amateur, projected to be India's No. 1 junior golfer by 2024, bounced back admirably. He completed his round with consecutive birdies after a series of pars and another bogey, highlighting his resilience and skill on the course.
Reflecting on his performance, Ranveer shared his thoughts, stating, "The round was pretty okay. I made some good recoveries but also some silly errors. My approach for tomorrow is to rest well and analyze my statistics of today, to avoid making the mistakes I made today. I think an overall improvement about decision-making and execution is something I would want to work on." His focus on improvement and strategic planning underscores a mature approach to his game.
Meanwhile, Kashika Mishra, representing the girls' side, also put forth a strong showing. With a score of one-over 73, she secured a tie for the tenth spot. Her round was a mix of highs and lows, with birdies being offset by bogeys, yet her performance remained solid. Delhi's pride, Kashika holds the distinction of being the current No. 1 in both junior and amateur categories in India, a testament to her talent and dedication.
The Indian teams also showed their mettle in the team events. Ranveer, paired with Krish Chawla, placed fifth in the boys' team competition with a combined score of one-under 141. Krish, the current junior India No. 1, had a challenging round, highlighted by an eagle and three birdies, despite facing setbacks with bogeys and a triple bogey, finishing tied 16th with a score of one-over 72.
On the girls' side, Kashika and Saanvi Somu joined forces, ranking seventh with a score of four-over 148, showcasing the depth of talent within the Indian contingent. Their efforts in the mixed team event, alongside Ranveer, saw them tied for seventh, demonstrating versatility and teamwork.
The competition is fierce, with Vietnam's Tuan Anh Nguyen leading the individual standings with an impressive six-under 65, closely followed by New Zealand's Cooper Moore. The Australian duo of Hamish Farquharson and Cooper Giddings currently tops the boys' team leaderboard, setting the stage for an exciting showdown in the coming rounds.
