Indian Grand Prix 5 Chandigarh Highlights, Day 2: The much-awaited 4x100m relay races will take place on the second and final day of Indian Grand Prix - 5 at the Athletics Track Sports Complex in Chandigarh on Monday (September 11).
(Scroll below for Live Updates) The big names of Indian sprint in action as the likes of Jyothi Yarraji, Srabani Nanda, Amlan Borgohain, and Amiya Kumar Mallick will team up in women's and men's relay respectively to give their best possible timing as the Athletics Federation of India has given them an opportunity to seal their spots for the Asian Games 2023 relays.

That's all from our Live coverage of Indian Grand Prix -5 over two days. Vithya Ramraj's sensational 55.43 seconds run in 400m hurdles saw her miss out on PT Usha's record by just 0.01 seconds while both 100m relay running teams couldn't breach the qualification mark for Asian Games 2023. That leaves a question mark over their selection for Huangzhou. The final squad for the Asian is expected to be out soon as the selection committee will announce their decision soon!

Women's 100m relay results

Men's 100m relay results

The women's 100m relay takes place right after and Team A expectedly wins with a timing of 44.66 seconds. Will that merit their qualification? The standard for Asian Games is 44.50 seconds!

Harjit, Amlan, Siva Kumar and Amiya combine to clock 39.24 seconds! Injury concern for Harjit, who hopped and fell on the track right after passing the baton to Amlan! The automatic qualification mark was 39.00 seconds!

It's the big attraction of the day as Harjit Singh starts for Team A with Amiya, Amlan and Siva Kumar looking to put strong timing for the Asian Games relay team!

Not the result the 3000m Steeplechaser was looking for as he is 18 seconds behind his personal best! The runner clocks 8:55.96 seconds while MD Hasan claims gold with a timing of 8:35.00 seconds, probably the best show on Indian soil this season with Avinash Sable not competing in India

Seema Punia throws 57.96m, which is better than her 57.35m throw in Almaty in July. The throw is above the Asian Games qualification mark as well but will it confirm her selection or not is something remains to be seen. At the Asian Athletics Championships earlier this year, the bronze medal came at 55.80m with no Indians competing. On a personal level, 40-year-old Seema is way past her prime as she is nowhere near her personal best of 64.84m!

Men's 3000m Steeplechase is currently underway as Balkishan competes to prove his fitness ahead of the Asian Games 2023!

Men's 800m complete results

Speaking after her win, Chanda said: "Federation asked me to compete in IGP to prove my fitness level for Asian Games. Harmilan di was competing to prove her fitness as well but we both fave each other a fight. I don't prefer competing so near to the Asian Games but it's just another race and saw it that way

Chanda beats Harmilan to the finish line in a close 800m race! Chanda clocks 2.02.68 seconds while Harmilan clocks 2.03.06 secs! Chanda earlier was selected for 800m at Asian Games while Harmilan is selected for both 800 and 1500m!

Interesting battle coming up next as Harmilan Bains and Chanda will be competing for top spot and leave an impression on selection committee for the Asian Games 2023! Asian Athletics silver medallist Chanda is in hot from this season with three national titles while 1500m national record holder Harmilan Bains is on a comeback trail since return from injury. Meanwhile Seema punia is in action in women's discus throw!
Haryana's Naveen Kumar clocks 1.52.75 second in Race C, which confirms Ankesh Choudhary as IGP 5 Champion in men's 800m with a timing of 1:48.12 secs
Two of the men's 800m races are over and Ankesh Chaudhary is in the lead with a timing of 1:48.12 seconds. Race favourite Mohammed Afsal pulled out in Race B at the halfway mark after a hamstring pull! One more to race to go to decide the winner!

Men's 400m hurdles complete results

Sharvari Parulekar wins Indian Grand Prix 5 with an attempt of 13.26 metre!

Vithya Ramaraj shared her thoughts with myKhel after coming close to PT Usha's record. She said: "I worked hard to break Usha ma'am's record but missed it by a bit. She is a legend and has multiple records to her name. I will consider myself lucky if i break one of her records. I will try my best to do it at the Asian Games!"

Back-to-back races but national record holder Jinson Johnson is missing from the event as he is focussed on 1500m and clocked impressive timing in the event on Day 1!
Interesting statistics by senior journalist Rahul Pawar. Vithya Ramaraj misses on PT Usha record by 0.001 seconds!
Vithya Ramraj who ran 52.40s in 400m yesterday, ran 400m hurdles today in exceptional pace to clock 55.43s, just a 0.001 short of legendary P T Usha’s long standing record of 55.42s set in 1984. @19thAGofficial pic.twitter.com/pQbhWEpuVe

55.43 seconds! That's her personal best in 400m hurdles, she improved on her previous best of 56.01 seconds from the Inter-states in Bhubaneswar!

Women's 400m hurdles are up next! Vithya Ramaraj is the star attraction. She earlier won the flat 400m on Day 1!

Women's high jump and women's triple jump are up next! Asian Championship participant Rubina Yadav will be in action in High jump while youngster Sharvari Parulekar is the attraction in triple jump
Vijay Singh Malik clocks 51.25 seconds in Race B, which means Yashash P claims the IGP 5 top spot with his 49.69 seconds. It remains to be seen if the performance will be enough to find him a late spot in the Asian Games 2023 squad

Yashash P continues his national dominance as he wins race A of the 400m hurdles at the IGP. The second race is up next but it will be hard for them to breach the timing of 49.69 seconds by the Karnataka hurdler!

Men's 400m hurdles and men's shot put gets underway to start the Day 2 with as many as 17 shot putters competing in the final

Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of Day 2 of the Indian Grand Prix as ace sprinters and veteran Seema Punia will push for the Asian Games 2023 qualification. This is your host Aditya K Halder, taking you through all the Live action from the Sports Complex in Chandigarh.
Discus throw legend Seema Punia, who won the 2014 Asian Games gold and 2018 bronze, will be competing in the women's shot put final as she will have her last shot at convincing the AFI selection committee if she is good enough to be in the Indian team at the age of 40.

Both the relays will also be the grand finale of the Indian Grand Prix 5 as they are scheduled from 5:50 PM onwards on the newly-laid track of the Sports Complex. Apart from them, eyes will also be on two of the upcoming sprinters Harjit Singh and Siva Kumar, who dominated the national scene during the Inter-State Athletics Championships earlier this year.
Earlier on Sunday, all the sprinters conserved their energies for the relay events as Harjit Singh went the quickest in men's 100m with a timing of 10.55 seconds, which is slower than his personal best of 10.37 seconds (2022) and his season best of 10.45 seconds. National record holder Amiya Mallick (10.26 seconds) clocked 10.75 seconds, slower than all of his relay teammates, and will be looking to find his best season effort of 10.31 seconds at least.
Apart from the sprinters, eyes will also be on Balkishan, who has been asked to appear for another screening at the Indian Grand Prix after the 3000m steeplechaser couldn't win a medal at the Asian Athletics Championships as he struggled to find his domestic pace.
