Barcelona, May 21: Indians may have to wait for one more month than the original scheduled date to watch the country's first Formula One Grand Prix event. Though nothing has confirmed about the same, there is a possibility if Bahrain is reinstated into the 2011 calendar.
About Bahrain being allotted the dates originally meant for the Indian Grand Prix, Bernie Ecclestone, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Formula One (F1) was quoted by Reuters as saying, "Yes, we are having a look at it. Everything's possible. We could do (move the Delhi race to the end of the season), yeah. I'm not sure at the moment what I'm going to do. Everything's up in the air."
He added, "I haven't decided about it. We'll see if we have to go to Bahrain."
Bahrain, scheduled for March 13, 2011 and meant to be the season opener was postponed indefinitely after civil unrest broke out in the Gulf Arab country. Though the situation has improved a bit, many in the world of F1 doubt the viability of staging the event in the wake of the politically charged-up event.
Eric Boullier, head of the Renault team was quoted by the Reuters as saying, "If, security is guaranteed; if the foreign ministries in England allow us to travel there; if my guys are happy and if there is a race happening there, we will be happy to race there," before adding, "But the next question would be in the political context: Do we have to race there? That is another subject. I don't really want to enter into that debate. But the question has to be raised. Does F1 have to go there? It is maybe too early to go there after the dramas."
Meanwhile, Vicky Chandhok, president of the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India has been reported by Reuters as saying that the track will be ready before October 30 (the scheduled date for the Indian Grand Prix).
