Indian grapplers continue to dominate; Ranjeet, Praveen pick up go

Pune, Oct 16 (UNI) Indian grapplers continued to dominate the wrestling arena with Ranjeet Nalawade and Praveen Rana picking up golds in the 63 kg and 69 kg categories respectively on the fifth day of the third edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games being held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports city, Balewadi here today.

Earlier yesterday, Indians had picked up golds in the 58 kg, 50 kg and 54 kg categories.

Ranjeet Nalawade started of strongly against his Canadian opponent Liya Abelev and did not give him much chance and asserted his supremacy right from the beginning.

The Canadian tried everything possible to pin the Indian down, but Ranjeet was too strong for him and finally Liya had to settle for the silver with Ranjeet giving India another gold winning by six points to one.

In the 69 kg category Praveen Rana continued to see that India makes a clean sweep of the wrestling events had to face a tough challenge from Christo Lottering before he managed to beat him 3-1 to hand India its fifth gold in wrestling.

Resullts: 63 kg: Ranjeet Nalawade (India) beat Liya Abelev (Canada) 69 kg: Praveen Rana (India) beat Christo Lottering (South Africa).
