India's golden hope Neeraj Chopra and the men's hockey team claimed a silver and bronze respectively at Paris 2024 Games on Thursday (August 8) to take India's Olympics medal tally to 40 - 10 gold, 10 silver and 20 bronze.
Chopra, a gold medallist in Tokyo 2020, became the first Indian to win a gold and silver double in individual events for the country after the javelin thrower settled for silver in Paris Olympics 2024.

The Indian men's hockey team also put behind their disappointment from the semi-final loss to clinch their second successive bronze at the Olympics, a feat which they achieved for the first time since Munich 1972.
Earlier, Swapnil Kusale became the first Indian shooter to win a medal in the men's 50m rifle 3P event after finishing in third place with an aggregate of 451.4. He secured India's 3rd medal in the ongoing Paris Olympic Games and all three have come in shooting so far.
Manu Bhaker had won two bronze medals earlier, winning the copper metal in women’s 10m air pistol event before combining with Sarabjot Singh to win the bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
Kusale’s bronze was the seventh medal in shooting at Olympics fro India. In earlier Olympic events, shooting legends Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, Vijay Kumar and Gagan Narang had also won a medal.

India opened it's account in Paris 1900 and has won the most medals in hockey, while recent years have seen the country achieve more success in the Summer Olympics with Neeraj Chopra winning the first-ever track and field gold and joining PV Sindhu in winning back to back medals for the nation.
