The Surfing Federation of India (SFI) has officially announced the upcoming fifth edition of the Indian Open of Surfing (IOS). This much-anticipated event is set to unfold at Sasihithlu Beach, Mangalore from May 31 to June 2, 2024.
It marks a significant event in the surfing calendar, being the second stop in the National Championship series for 2024. Supported by the Karnataka Government for the fifth consecutive year, the event promises to showcase the top talents in Indian surfing.

The competition is poised to feature four categories: Men's Open, Women's Open, and separate Groms (U-16) categories for boys and girls. This structure ensures a broad platform for national surfers to compete. With the IOS following the International Surfing Festival Kerala 2024, it serves as a critical battleground for surfers vying for top positions in the national standings.
Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Mullai Muhilan MP, IAS, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its role in promoting Karnataka's coasts and boosting tourism. Arun Vasu, President of the SFI, underscored the event's significance in India's surfing aspirations, noting the strong start to the National Series in Kerala and expressing optimism for the upcoming competition in Mangaluru.
Surfers to watch include Ramesh Budihal, Harish M, Srikanth D, Manikandan M in the men's category, and Kamali Moorthy, Srishthi Selvam, Sandhya Arun in the women's category. Kishore Kumar, a teenage sensation, is also expected to draw attention following his impressive performances.
Rammohan Paranjape, Vice President of SFI and Director of Mantra Surf Club, anticipates a competitive event with a strong turnout of India's top surfers. The previous IOS editions have seen close finishes, enhancing the excitement for this year's competition.
The first championship of 2024, held in Kerala, saw Ramesh Budihal and Kamali P clinching the Men's and Women's Open categories, respectively, with Kishore Kumar dominating the Groms 16 and Under Boys category with a score of 14.73.
The Indian Open of Surfing 2024 not only highlights the growing interest and talent in the sport across India but also emphasizes the role of such events in promoting local tourism and providing a competitive platform for surfers.
