Indian powerlifters win 7 Gold to finish third in Asian Powerlifting

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) India won 21 medals, including seven gold, to finish third in the 15-nation Asian Powerlifting Championship held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

P C Bidika and Manik Thosare bagged gold medals in the 56kg and 125kg respectively in men's event while in the women's, Rekha Acharya (56kg), Surya Praba and Rathan Mani (67.5kg), P Golkilavani (75kg) and Manjeet Kaur (90kg) helped India pocket nine silver medals.

Tania Das (48kg), Seema Gope (75kg), Sunita (82.5kg) and Deepali Kulkarni (90kg) claimed silver medals to swell India's lead in the 15-nation championship.

Amongst the men, Mahesh Pedamkar (60kg), Pradeep Katra (67.5kg), Ram Shankar Singh (90kg), Puran Singh (100kg) and Sathya Prakash (110kg) bagged a silver each in the tournament.

India also managed to bag five bronze medals with the efforts of Satish M Patade (56kg) and B D Bas (100kg) in the men's event while Dhanvantri Thakur (48kg), Sudha Kumari (56kg) and Rama (60kg) helped Indian eves to claim the other three.
