Indian pugilists dominate ring in Jr section of YMCA boxing
New Delhi, Jan 29 (UNI) Indian pugilists dominated the ring, chalking out facile victories over their rivals on the opening day of the 10th YMCA International Boxing Championships here today.
Seven Indians won their respective bouts in the junior section while two lost.
Aman (57 kg), Kapil (57 kg) and Jagbir's (60 kg) superiority over their opponents -- Ruslan Chemurzi (Kazakhstan), Iallaberdi (Turkey) and Tsheringla (Bhutan) respectively -- was so complete that the referee had to stop the contests.
In other bouts, Sunil outpunched Tajimov Timur (Turkey) 5:0 in 48 kg, Sandeep beat Zalimaalla (Iraq) 21:13 in 54 kg, Rakesh overpowered Sadykov Ilham of Turkministan (20:8) in 60 kg and V Santosh Kumar beat Charymrat of Turkministan 16:11 in 57 kg.
However, Jeevan (51 kg) lost to Bactora of Mauritius 10:13 while Devender (46 kg) was beaten 10:18 by Agyabayev of Kazakhstan.
The five-day tournament is being organised in cooperation with the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
