Indian pugilists storm into finals, Mary Kom leads way

Guwahati, Sep 27 (UNI) Former world champion MC Mary Kom stormed into the finals of the Fourth Asian Women Boxing Championship here today with Indian pugilists keeping hopes flying high by winning all their semi-final bouts played so far.

The star Indian pugilist Mary Kom routed Vitenam's Nguyen Thi Hoa in the Pin 46 kg category 3-0.

She will take on Ok Jong of Korea in the finals to be played tomorrow. Jong had defeated Kodituwakku Anusha of Sri Lanka 10-1 to enter the finals.

Local Assam girl Kalpana Choudhury too kept the Indian hopes alive by storming into the finals of the Light Fly 46 category. She defeated Ri Jong Hyang of Korea 3-1.

Kalpana will face Ngo Thi Phijong of Vietnam in the finals. Sarita Devi also won her bout against Eserenchimeg Tesrendorj of Mongolia to sail into the finals of the Light Bantam 52 kg. She will face Ren Cancan of China in the deciding match.

Another Indian medal hope Pavitra too registered win over Koroleva Oxana of Kazakistan by 4-2 to enter the finals of Bantam 54 kg.

Pavitra will take on Zhand Quin of China in the finals.

Nagishetty Usha also won her bout in the feather 57 kg category, defeating Yun Kum Ju of Korea 4-2.

Two Indian pugilists still remain in the fray, with Kavita Goyat scheduled to play in the Welter 66 kg and Seema Devi Yadav to play in the Light Middle 77 kg categories later in the evening.
