Indian shuttlers shine in Asian Youth championship

Lucknow, Aug 29 (UNI) Asian Youth-16 mixed doubles pair of Raj Kumar and Prajakta Sawant created history by winning the title of the mixed doubles category of the championship held at Hanoi (Vietnam) from August 22 to 26.

The coach of the Indian team Devendra Kaushal said here today the Indian pair lifted the mixed doubles top place beating the strong contenders China, Indonesia, Korea and Malaysia.

In the final, Raj and Prajakta won over China's mixed doubles pair Yu Ziao and Deng Juan at 16-21,21-16 and 21-17.

In the boys team championships India beat Hongkong 3-0 in group league match and in cross play beat Laos 2-0, however, in the quarter finals they bowed down to top-ranked Malaysia 2-0.

The secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association Vijay Sinha hailed the Indian mixed doubles pair fiat saying it shows that out junior teams would be able to maintain their challenge in future too.
