Indian long-distance superstar Gulveer Singh has shattered his own national record in the men's 10,000m event, setting a new benchmark for Indian athletics.
Racing at the Ten competition in the USA, Gulveer delivered a stunning performance, clocking 27:00.20 mins. His previous personal best was 27:14.88 mins, which he created last year.

Despite finishing sixth, he fell heartbreakingly short of the World Championships qualification mark of 27:00.00 mins, he missed the World Championships qualification mark by just 0.20 sec.
"I'm very happy with his performance. He even told me before the race that he would break his personal best. I was expecting 26:59.0, and he's capable of achieving this," Gulveer Singh's coach, Younus Khan, told myKhel exclusively.
Recently, Gulveer Singh set a new Asian record in the 5000m short track event at the Boston University Terrier DMR Challenge 2025 in Massachusetts. Racing at the renowned Boston University Track and Tennis Center, known for producing fast times, he secured a fourth-place finish with an impressive time of 12 minutes and 59.77 seconds (12:59.77 mins). With this feat, he became the first Asian athlete to complete the 5000m short track in under 13 minutes.
The qualifying mark for the 5000m outdoor event for the World Athletics Championships 2025 is 13:01.00 mins. Athletes who breach the entry standard at the indoor events can also qualify for the World Championships 2025, set to take place in Tokyo in September.
In March 2023, Gulveer Singh rewrote Indian athletics history by clocking 27:41.81 mins at the Ten Track Meet in California, smashing Surender Singh's 16-year-old national record of 28:02.89 mins from 2008.
His latest achievement in the USA reaffirms his position as India's leading long-distance runner. Gulveer had also claimed bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games with a time of 28:17.21 mins, proving his mettle on the international stage.
With his relentless progress and record-breaking runs, he stands as India's brightest prospect in long-distance events. Though the World Championships and Olympics remained out of reach this time, his rapid ascent hints at even greater milestones ahead.
