The framework, aimed at bringing clarity and accountability, clearly distinguishes between esports, non-money gaming, and online money gaming - a long-standing demand from industry stakeholders.

Industry leaders have welcomed the swift implementation of the rules, highlighting the certainty it brings to India's rapidly expanding gaming ecosystem.

Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming, described the move as a crucial step towards structured growth.

"It's encouraging to see the rules being operationalised so swiftly... provisions like publisher-led registration of esports titles and a time-bound determination process create much-needed certainty for stakeholders," he said .

He also emphasised the importance of distinguishing esports from online money gaming, calling it critical to preserving the integrity of competitive gaming as a skill-based discipline.

Boost for Investment and Long-Term Growth

The introduction of clear regulatory boundaries is expected to unlock investor confidence and encourage long-term planning within the industry.

Animesh Agarwal, Co-founder and CEO of S8UL, noted that the development marks a "significant turning point" for esports in India.

"This clarity is critical in unlocking investor confidence and attracting multi-genre brands... enabling organisations to take a more long-term view," he said .

He added that the move strengthens trust among audiences and positions esports as a serious and fast-growing youth entertainment category.

Vishal Parekh, COO of CyberPowerPC India, pointed out that regulatory backing would encourage institutions to invest in esports infrastructure and training.

He added that this could unlock opportunities across competitive gaming, content creation, game development, and related sectors, strengthening India's digital economy.

Sagar Nair, Head of Incubation at LVL Zero Incubator, believes capital will gradually move away from real-money gaming models.

He added that regulatory clarity removes ambiguity, making India a more credible destination for global gaming companies, even though it may restrict certain business models in the short term.
