Inter-State Athletics Championships 2023 Highlights, Day 5: 62nd National Inter-State Athletics Championships concluded on its fifth and final day Tajinderpal Singh Toor taking centre stage by rewriting his Asian and national record with a huge throw of 21.77 seconds. Also in action, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar continued his rich form of the season with a leap of 8.29 metre to take the gold medal. Earlier in the qualification round on Sunday, he recorded a personal best of 8.41 metre.

Women's 5000m result: No athlete made the Asian Games cut.

Gold medallist Pooja matched the Asian Games qualification mark of 1.80m.

Siva Subramani claims the gold medal and creates a new meet record with an attempt of 5.11 metre. He couldn't qualify for the Asian Games.

Women's Hammer Throw Result: KM Rachna (gold) and Tanya Chaudhary (silver) breach the Asian Games qualification standard.

Rohit Yadav wins the gold medal with an 83.28 metre while Odisha boy Kishore Kumar Jena throws 82.87m for silver ahead of Shivpal Singh (81.96m). While all three of them breached the Asian Games qualification mark, only one of them may join Neeraj Chopra in Huangzhou later this year.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor rewrites his own Asian and National record of 21.49 seconds with a throw of 21.77 seconds.

Murali Sreeshankar coulndn't improve on his 8.29m jump with back-to-back four foul jumps but the effort was the best of the night as he takes home the gold medal, his fourth consecutive Inter-State gold medal. National record holder Jeswin Aldrin is second with 7.98m effort and is clear for Asian Games selection.

Chanda, Harmilan Bains, and Deeksha KM qualify for Asian Games as they breach the qualification mark.

Jinson Johnson wins back-to-back national gold medal as he clocks 3:42.77 seconds for the top spot. The timing also exceeds the Asian Games qualifying mark

Murali Sreeshankar jumps 8.29m in his second attempt to take the lead. His first attempt was 8.03m. National record holder Jeswin Aldrin is on the second spot with 7.98m.

Amlan Borgohain clocked 20.71 seconds to win the 200m goold. The sprinter, however, failed to breach the Asian Games standard of 20.61 seconds

Srabani Nanda clocked 23.77 seconds to win the women's 200m final. The Odisha runner, however, couldn't breach the Asian Games qualiyfing mark in the category.Prachi and Anjali took the remaining spots on the podium.

Women's javelin throw final results

Ancy Sojan overtook Shaili Singh in her fifth attempt as she jumped 6.51m. Shaili's last two attempts were good as she jumped 6.47 and 6.49m.

Vithya Ramraj bagged her second medal of the Inter-State as she won gold in her forte 400m hurdles with a timing of 56.01 seconds. She comfortably breached the Asian Games qualification mark of 57.48 seconds. Vithya earlier won 400m flat bronze.

Javelin thrower Annu Rani's early attempt of 58.22m seals her gold medal at the Inter-States. She will have to still wait for her first 60m jump of the season.

Yashash P continues his dominance with back-to-back national medals as he clocked 49.37 seconds to win the gold. Santosh Kumar was a close second at 49.52 seconds. Both breached qualifying standard of 49.75 seconds. Complete result to follow soon.

National record holder Annu Rani is in action as well in the women's javelin throw final and has been expectedly to leading with an effort of 58.22 metre. She is yet to go past 60m this season.

Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of Day 5 of Inter-State Athletics Championships 2023. Mykhel brings you all the Live updates from Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The evening session has begun already but our apologies for the delay in the coverage because of poor network connectivity. Long jumper Shaili Singh is currently competing already and is leading at 6.49 metres after two rounds.
The women's long jump final (5:05 PM IST) is among the main attractions with Shaili Singh competing. Ancy Sojan and Nayana James will be up against the youngster as well.
However, it's the men's long jump final that is seen as the main event of the day with Murali Sreeshankar jumping 8.41 metres in the qualification round on Sunday. His final begins at 6:50 PM IST.
The men's javelin throws final will see the return of Shivpal Singh to the Inter-States since the athlete made his return earlier this year after the doping suspension. However, Rohit Yadav and DP Manu are seen among the favourites for the gold medal while Neeraj Chopra was granted an exemption from the event. The Asian Games qualification standard is set at 78.23 seconds.
The men's 1500m will have national record holder Jinson Johnson in action too as the long-distance runner has been on a comeback trail with the Asian Games approaching. The men's 400m hurdles will have Jabir MP and Federation Cup champion Yashash P vying for the gold medal while Vithya Ramraj is the favourite in the women's final.
The Inter-State Athletics Championships will fold with the men's and women's relay final while the men's shot put will have Tajinderpal Singh Toor in action as well.
