Inter State Athletics Championships 2024: Jyothi Yarraji, Sahil Silwal & Ancy Sojan Shine On Last Day

As the Inter-State Athletics Championships concluded in Panchkula, the Olympics qualification also ended with it. On Sunday (June 30), the final day of this four-day championship, Jyothi Yarraji claimed the gold medal with a timing of 13.06 seconds, and she will most likely qualify for the Paris Olympics via World Rankings.

Tejas Shirse won the gold medal in the 110m final with a timing of 13.54 but failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics, as the qualification standard was 13.27.

Inter State Athletics Championships 2024 Jyothi Yarraji Sahil Silwal amp amp Ancy Sojan Shine On Last Day

This was his second-best career time, which, though impressive, won't be enough to secure him a spot at Paris 2024. Nonetheless, it was a commendable effort in his qualifying journey. Additionally, it is the fastest time ever recorded by an Indian in the 110m hurdles within India.

In the men's javelin final, Sahil Silwal won the gold medal with a personal best throw of 81.81m. Kishore Jena secured the bronze medal with a season-best effort of 80.84m, while Vikrant Malik took the silver with a season-best throw of 81.74m.

Kishore Jena, who has already secured a Paris Olympics quota following an 87.54m throw that won him the silver medal at the Asian Games last year, beat the 80m mark for the first time in three events this season.

Silwal surpassed the 80m mark for the first time in the 2024 athletics season, while this was Vikrant's third throw over 80m of the season. Earlier this year, Vikrant won both the Indian Open Throws Competition and the Meeting Cidade de Lisboa.

In the women's long jump final, the competition was very tough among Shaili Singh, Ancy Sojan, and Nayana James. Ancy secured the gold medal on a countback, as both she and Shaili jumped 6.59 meters, but Ancy's second-best jump surpassed Shaili's.

2017 Asian Championships bronze medalist Nayana James secured third place with a top jump of 6.42m. This event marked the first occasion this season where all three jumpers competed together.

A new national record was set in the mixed 4x400m relay as Kiran Pahal, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Anas and Jyothika Sri Dandi clocked 3:12.87 to erase the old national record of 3.14.12.

Jyothika and Ajmal, along with Amoj Jacob and Subha Venkatesan, were among the team members who set the previous record at the Asian Relay Championships in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this year. However, even with the new national record, it appears unlikely that India will secure a mixed relay quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
