Inter-University Athletic Meet in B'lore from Jan 25

Bangalore, Jan 13 (UNI) About 2,000 athletes from 122 universities will be seen in action at the 67th All India Inter-University Athletic Championship, to be held at Sri Kanteerava Stadium here from January 25.

International athletes like Mohammed Mudassir, Bindu Rani, Shilpa Sunder and state athletes Gopal, M C Niranjan, S K Prakash, K Srinivas, A P Chirag, Jyothi Kolekar and Bhargava Reddy would participate in the championship.

Both men and women of M G University, Kottayam, had lifted the overall championship title in the last edition, held at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to newspersons here today, Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof H A Ranganath said that in the championship, being held for the first time in Bangalore, 22 events would be held in the men's section and 21 events in women's section.

He said the Karnataka Athletics Association, besides providing major logistics support, had provided 125 officials for technical assistance. To mark the occasion, a special souvenir containing articles from renowned sports writers and sports journalists would be brought out.
