Internet, not selectors, told Jones about World Cup exclusion

London, Jan 20 (UNI) Shabby dealing of a player's omission is not quintessentially an Indian phenomenon and England's axed stumper Geraint Jones revealed that he came to know about his omission from the World Cup probables through the Internet.

Interstingly, Jones is not the lone player who is sulking for the way the bad news was conveyed to him.

Earlier, Darren Gough was also annoyed after chairman of selector David Graveney sent him a text message informing that he had failed to make the cut for the World Cup. Graveney, however, tendered a public apology to the pacer and admitted that the matter was not efficiently handled.

Jones, however, does not complain about the way his omission was dealt with by the selectors and the Kent wicketkeeper revealed his wife Jenny read the story online to inform him.

''You can't expect a phone call every time,'' Jones told BBC Sport, trying to downplay the issue.

''It's just the way it happened, that's the way of the world now.

You don't always get a phone call to tell you you're in so you shouldn't always get one to tell you you're out,'' he explained.

Jones was part of the England squad that landed in Australia to defend the Ashes but was left out for the last two Tests and the subsequent triangular one-day series as well.

The 30-year-old stumper had a poor run with the bat but Jones is determined to rediscover his touch with a stint playing grade cricket in Brisbane.

''It's what I'm spending the next couple of months here for. I have a season at Kent coming up and have to make sure I'm the fittest and in the best form I can be,'' he said.
