The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has confirmed that the Indian Senior Men's National Basketball Team is safe and secure in Doha, Qatar, following their participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.

In an official press release dated February 28, 2026, the BFI stated that the team is currently unable to proceed with its scheduled onward travel due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region that have led to disruptions in international airspace and flight operations.
The Indian team had successfully completed its scheduled match against Qatar on February 27. However, in light of the prevailing situation and resulting travel uncertainties, the players and accompanying officials remain stationed in Doha under safe and secure accommodation.
The BFI said it is in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, as well as the Embassy of India in Doha to ensure the safety, security and well-being of the contingent. Efforts are also underway to facilitate their safe return to India at the earliest possible time.
The federation added that the welfare of the players and officials remains its highest priority and that it is closely monitoring developments while staying in regular communication with team management, relevant authorities and international basketball bodies.
Further updates are expected as the situation evolves.
