Irish skipper taken to hospital after famous victory

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Mar 18 (Reuters) The man who hit the winning runs in Ireland's famous World Cup victory over Pakistan headed for hospital after injuring his shoulder during the dramatic Group D match at Sabina Park.

Ireland captain Trent Johnston yesterday smashed a winning six to beat the 1992 champions and send them out of the tournament in one of the biggest shocks of the World Cup's 32-year history.

In the news conference afterwards, though, he said he would be doubtful for the final group match against West Indies on Friday.

''I've got some sort of rotator cuff problem in the left shoulder,'' he said. ''I injured it diving for a ball today.

''It's an old injury. There's quite a bit of pain there -- I'm going to hospital after this to get an MRI (scan).

''Hopefully, I can get that right for six days ... I've got to take it easy tonight and watch the rest of the boys party.'' REUTERS SBA PM0704
