Ishant thanks Zaheer for his valuable inputs

Bangalore, Nov 24 (UNI) Showering praise on Zaheer Khan for his valuable inputs, speedster Ishant Sharma said the left-arm pacer gave him confidence to keep the English batsmen at bay and produce some crucial wickets for the team which allowed India to seal the ODI series 4-0.

''Yes, he (Zaheer) has been a great help. He told me not worry about the no balls and just stick to the basics,'' Ishant said after India's 19-run win over England in the fourth ODI here last night.

at a given point of time. I think it was because of the seniors' advices that I could bowl well here and produce a result in my team's favour,'' said Ishant who returned with figures of two for 41 off his five overs in the rain-curtailed match.

Meanwhile, Zaheer himself bowled exceptionally well and was a miser with his economy rate giving away just 20 runs off his five overs which also had two important wickets.

Chasing a target of 198 off 22 overs, England needed a good start and Indian bowlers did not let the visitors off the hook as the home team bowlers allowed the English batsmen to score only 20 runs off the first six overs of the powerplay.

Ishant was responsible to send England captain Kevin Pietersen and all-rounder Andrew Flintoff back to the pavilion.

''We have to see the situation and bowl accordingly in the powerplays. In the first powerplay we we stuck to our basics and looked to bowl a tight line.

''In the third powerplay we have to bowl wiith some good variations and that is what I did today,'' he stated.

However, it was not easy to grip the ball in the wet conditions but Indian bowlers did well to use the slower deliveries to good effect and make important inroads in the English batting.

''Yes, it was not easy to bowl with variations but such things are part and parcel of the game and one has to be ready to bowl in any kind of situation,'' Ishant replied.
