Isles win medals in National rowing

Port Blair, Jan 20 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Rowing team has so far won a silver and a bronze in the 27th National Rowing championship at Bhopal from January 17 to 21, officials said today.

Manjula Rai and Radha Kumari won silver medal for the islands in 2000 metrs. Coxless Pair event while Kumari Akashi Paul, Purnalaxmi Roy, Manjula Rai and Radha Kumari won bronze medal in 2000 mtrs.

''Coxless four event Kumari B Usa finished fourth in the 2000 mtrs single scull and narrowly misses a medal,'' Sports Authority of India in Andaman Assistant Director Joy Kumar Roy told UNI.

The 14-members rowing team accompanied by Mr Easudasan, a senior SAI Rowing Coach, is participating in the championship.

The 500 metres races will be held today and tomorrow, Roy added.
