It is an Honour I will cherish Forever: Manu Bhaker reacts after chosen as India's flagbearer in Olympics Closing Ceremony

Manu Bhaker has become a sensation overnight after her fantastic outing at the Paris Olympics 2024.

The Indian shooter won two Bronze medals in the games, thus becoming the first Indian athlete to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics.

The Haryana-born star won a Bronze medal first in the individual 10m Air Rifle event, and then backed it up with another Bronze medal in the mixed team 10m Air Rifle event, along with Sarabjot Singh. She was agonizingly close again for another medal and finished 4th in the 25m Air Pistol event.

The entire nation has hailed the new star as she oozed her brilliance in Paris. After her magnificent outing in the games, Manu wished for homemade 'Alu Paratha', and she may get that soon. The Indian athlete is set to visit India and then will fly back to Paris on August 10 before the closing ceremony. Upon coming to India, PM Narendra Modi and the Sports Ministry will felicitate the double-medalist as well.

The Indian Olympic Committee has named the Indian shooter as the flagbearer for the Olympic Closing ceremony. In the opening ceremony, PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal hoisted the India flag together, but the baton has now been passed to the sweet-spoken Manu, who will fly the tricolour high.

After the confirmation, Manu posted a heartfelt message on social media and expressed her gratitude.

"It is an honour and privilege to be named as India's flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Leading the outstanding Indian contingent with the tricolour in my hands with millions around the world watching is a truly humbling opportunity and one that I will cherish forever," Manu wrote on X.

"I am grateful to The IOA for considering me worthy of this honour, and I look forward to raising the Indian flag with immense pride. Jai Hind," she concluded.

It is indeed a massive and proud moment for Manu, but the might of her achievements in the Paris Olympics has broken all the barriers and she can hold her head very high for it.
