Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) The telephone started ringing incessantly at the hometown of Grand Master Viswanathan Anand the moment, news of his victory came in that he had defeated challenger Kramnic and retained the world chess title in Bonn in Germany today.

''I am relieved,'' Anand's mother Susheela said unable to contain her excitement and happiness. He could have won it in the last game.

But today he made it and I am sure he would be back home to a rousing welcome like last time when he won the title in September last Susheela who taught Anand the inital moves on the chess board when he was boy, said.

All India Chess Federation (AICF) President N Srinivasan, who is also Cricket Board Secretary said it's a Diwali gift for Tamil Nadu. We are proud at his fantastic achievement.

India no 5 and Grand Master Sandipan Chanda said there is no doubt that Anand is the king of chess now. ''He has outplayed Kramnic. The Russian has many lessons to learn from this contest against Anand, he added.
