Csaba Gyorik, a Hungarian coach who significantly influenced the careers of Indian shooters like Vijay Kumar and Samresh Jung, recently experienced a heartfelt return to India.
"It's like coming home," Gyorik expressed during the ISSF World Cup final. He fondly recalled his time coaching the Indian team at the Karni Singh Range, where he worked with Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar and Commonwealth Games hero Samresh Jung.

Gyorik's tenure as the foreign coach for India's pistol team spanned nearly four years, from 2004 to 2008. During this period, Indian shooters achieved significant success, with Samaresh Jung earning the nickname "Goldfinger" after winning five gold medals at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Currently, Gyorik is coaching Hungary's Veronika Major, who secured a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol event at the Paris Olympics by defeating India's Manu Bhaker.
Upon returning to India, Gyorik noticed a remarkable increase in enthusiasm among Indian shooters compared to his previous coaching days. "When I reached India this time, I was surprised by the enthusiasm of the shooters," he remarked. The dedication and eagerness of the athletes to compete and work hard left a positive impression on him.
Gyorik expressed particular pride in Samaresh Jung's achievements. Jung has now become India's national pistol coach, a role that reflects his growth and dedication. Gyorik acknowledged this as a significant accomplishment, noting that Jung is following in the footsteps of his teachings.
Discussing Manu Bhaker, India's rising pistol star who won two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, Gyorik praised her consistent performance over recent years. He refrained from advising on her preparation but expressed confidence in her current support team. "The medals she won in Paris are proof that she is on the right track," he stated. Despite her young age, Bhaker has shown great potential and has a promising future ahead.
Gyorik's visit to India not only rekindled memories but also highlighted the progress and enthusiasm within Indian shooting sports. His influence continues to resonate through athletes like Samaresh Jung and Manu Bhaker, who are making their mark on international platforms.
