J K Tyre National Racing championship moves to Chennai

Mumbai, Aug 8 (UNI) After two thrilling action-packed rounds in Coimbatore, the scenario now shifts to Chennai for the next four legs of the J K Tyre National Racing Championship 2007.

The 3rd round is scheduled for this weekend at the Madras Motor Race Track at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Around 50 racers, representing the cream of Indian formula car racers will be seen in action in three categories - Formula Rolon Chevrolet, Formula LGB Hyundai and Formula LGB Swift, a release here today stated.

In the first two rounds, the younger generation racers - most of them less than 20 years of age - took the upper hand. The participation of the Sri Lankan racing squad in the Championship has given it an international flavor. However the Sri Lankans will be skipping this round and will be back in action from the fourth round.

Team N K Racing has dominated the Formula Rolon Chevrolet category so far with emphatic wins. Leading in the championship tally at the end of the second round with 29 points is Aditya Patel from Team NK Racing followed by Sarosh Hataria of Team Prime Racing with 24 points. In third place is Saran Vikram from Team NK Racing with 20 points. Team championship position leader is Prime Racing with 52 points followed closely by Team NK with 50 points. Team WSRF with Leela is in third place with 19 points.

In Formula LGB Hyundai class it is the teenage sensation from Chennai and Team Rams Racing's Ashwin Sunder in the lead with 42 points to his credit. Ashwin had a memorable outing in the first two rounds winning 3 of the 4 races and finishing second in one race.

Rayomand Banajee and Anand Prasad of Team Gemini Racing are in 2nd and 3rd places with 29 and 28 points respectively. Gemini Racing heads the team championship table with a tally of 57 points followed by Rams Racing with 56 points. WSRF with Leela are in 3rd place with 11 points, the release added.

Ashwin Sunder of Rams Racing is in the lead in the Formula LGB Swift category after 2 rounds with a tally of 36 points. Karthik Shankar of Team WSRF with Leela is in the 2nd place having notched up 22 points. Aditya Patel of Gemini Racing is in third place with 20 points. Team WSRF with Leela leads in the team championship with 48 points followed closely by Team Rams Racing with 46 points. Team Gemini Racing is in 3rd place with 32 points.

The 3rd round will consist of one qualifying and two races. Eight races will be held in each round - 2 races in each class. The qualifying races will be held on Saturday, August 11 and races in all the 3 classes during the pre lunch session on Sunday, August 12.
