Jacob Kiplimo creates Half Marathon World Record in Barcelona
In a remarkable display of endurance and speed, Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo shattered the half marathon world record at the eDreams Mitja Marato Barcelona on February 16, 2025.
The 24-year-old completed the race in a staggering 56 minutes and 42 seconds, surpassing the previous record by 48 seconds.

Kiplimo's performance not only broke the existing record but also marked the most significant improvement in the men's half marathon world record to date.
Reflecting on his achievement, Kiplimo attributed his success to ideal race conditions, including perfect temperatures and the absence of wind.
"I am very excited about what I did today. I started strong, I wanted to have a great race, but I didn't expect to break the world record," Kiplimo said.
This record-setting run adds to Kiplimo's impressive list of accomplishments. He is a two-time world cross country champion and previously held the half marathon world record with a time of 57:31, set in Lisbon in 2021. His latest feat not only reclaims his position at the pinnacle of long-distance running but also sets a new benchmark for athletes worldwide.
Looking ahead, Kiplimo has announced plans to make his marathon debut at the London Marathon on April 27, 2025. This upcoming challenge signifies a new chapter in his career, as he transitions from dominating half marathons to testing his prowess over the full marathon distance.
