Bangkok, Oct 30: Indonesia's jailed soccer president is set to lose his job after world governing body FIFA called for fresh polls that would prevent his re-election.
A FIFA committee yesterday ruled that Nurdin Halid, who Indonesia's soccer federation refused to sack when he was found guilty of graft, will not be allowed to run in the elections.
Halid, 48, was re-elected on April 20 but FIFA called for the polls to be reorganised because they were not carried out within the agreed timeframe.
Indonesia's Supreme Court last month found Halid guilty of misusing 18 million dollars belonging to a logistics company he headed, overturning a 2005 lower court acquittal. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
Halid, a prominent businessman and a politician with Indonesia's powerful Glokar party, was reported by local media to have taken money from a fund intended for the distribution of cooking oil.
